Falling Forward | Feeling Stuck

Week 2 of 6 radiation is done. Physically, this week has been fine. Mentally, though, it's been a much tougher one.

More than anything, I've been struggling with the feeling of being stuck—of standing still. I hate feeling stagnant. Every day, I'm taking steps that should move the needle, but it's exhausting when those steps don't seem to produce anything tangible. I imagine it's similar to what actors experience after auditioning over and over without landing a role.

Lately, I've been applying for grants and fellowships nonstop, and so far, it's just been silence.

I think the hardest part is knowing that I should feel grateful. And I am. I have so much to be thankful for. But gratitude doesn't erase frustration. If anything, I sometimes end up frustrated that I'm frustrated in the first place.

The one thing that's helped is pouring my energy into Get Reelisms and filming a few scenes from the proof of concept for my short film, Tumi & Me. It reminded me why I'm doing all of this in the first place.

That said, Tumi & Me still needs your financial support. I know there are so many people who would happily support this project with their time, energy, and heart. But the truth is, they shouldn't have to. Filmmaking is a profession, and the incredibly talented people on my team deserve to be paid fairly for their work. One of my biggest priorities is making sure the people helping bring this story to life can also make a living doing what they love.

Donate to Tumi & Me

If you're able to contribute, your support will help make that possible.
